Film from Kolkata Rumi wins Golden Eye Award in Drishti 2012.

English film ‘Rumi’ won the Drishti 2012 Golden Eye award. The film was produced by Ms. Tamali Roy of Kolkata. The Silver Eye in short film category of Drishti 2012 creative contest went to the film ‘One Donation Two Lives’ produced by Aachal Arora and her team of Delhi.  This is second year in a row Drishti Creative Contest has been organized for the promotion of eye donation.

Posters, design and audio jingles entries were also invited on the common theme of promotion of eye donation. In poster making Golden Eye award is shared by Nikhil Raj of Ahmedabad and Kanishka Sinwar & Sukriti Sahani of Delhi. Silver Eye in poster category is also shared by three participants Purva Thakkar & team of Delhi, Rajeev Kumar and Subhrajit Chowdhary.

In design category Golden Eye is won by Gautam Kamat of Goa for his mug design and Silver Eye was gone Suruchi and Mandhvi of Agra for their T-Shirt design promoting eye donation.

The awards were given in a colourful ceremony held at the auditorium of Holy Public School in Agra. Main attraction of the event of screening of short listed films and exhibition of posters and design entries.  Award winning films Rumi and One Donation Two Lives were appreciated by the audience which was present in good attendance. Producer of Rumi Tamali Roy and Amanita Sen who played the main character in film travelled from Kolkata to receive the award. Nikhil Raj and Gautam Kamat the award winners in poster and design also came here from Ahmedabad and Goa respectively.

A skid on the theme of eye donation was presented by the students of Umri Public school while a group of street children under the banner Feet For Future staged a play “Gaddha”.

A group discussion on problems and perspective of eye donation was also held which was moderated by senior journalist Prashant Tandon and participated by Dr D.J. Pandey, former head of ophthalmology of SN Medical College, Agra, Sridhar Upadhayaya, a visually impaired employee in Agra Collectorate. Dr Pandey highlighted the medical aspect of eye donation.

Speaking on the success of the programme Akhil Srivastava – the core team member of Drishti said that we are encouraged by the wide spread participation of creative contest and will soon unveil new programmes for the next year.  Senior journalist Prashant Tandon who is associated with drishti since its inception said, “Mass media and creative platforms are powerful source to bring awareness to this cause of promotion of eye donation and Drishti will work more to exploit these”.
